A huge boost for Denbigh Film Club

Posted by Denbigh01 on March 28, 2008 10:31 AM |

Clwb Ffilmiau Dinbych/Denbigh Film Club has been awarded a grant of £4,845 by Awards For All Wales, the Big Lottary Fund for the purchase of a surround sound system. The sound equipment will be added to the electronic screen and projector also purchased with a Lottery grant in 2007. The home of the state of the art cinema installation is Theatr Twm o'r Nant, the venue for most of the film shows aimed at the whole community in town.

Denbigh film club is run by a group of volunteers who give time and effort to provide regular monthly shows to members and non-members as well as deliver film shows to various groups within Denbigh including the local schools at a Films for Schools festival, Denbighshire County Council events, e.g. Heritage weekend, the Summer Festival in June, Christmas, Easter and Halloween shows for the general public and many other local and nation-wide events.

Successful fund raising campaigns have provided funds for portable cinematic  installation which is used to present films in other venues to groups such as the elderly, Mencap, The Arthritis Care Society and this spring delivering film shows in the neighbouring villages, Nantglyn, Llandyrnog and Llanefydd. We readily respond to requests for film presentations from the business community and organisations across North Wales.

During the next six months our film shows will be held in the Town Hall on the second Saturday of the month. We have presented award winning mainstream and independent British and foreign films such as Casino Royale, Black Book, Rararouille, Charlotte's Web for schools and families, Welsh animation films, old classics and brand new releases. All our shows are soicial events with refreshments in an atmosphere of relaxation, fun and friendship. We welcome everyone to join in the fun.

This season we are presenting films such as Distant Voices, Still Lives, in April, a Terrence Davies film to celebrate Liverpool, the city of culture this year. Ten Canoes, an Australian film in May and Shane Meadows BAFTA winning film This is England,  in June. Later we are showing films such as Grow Your Own, 2001 A Space Odyssey, La Vie En Rose, My Best Friend.  At every show we also present classic and contemporary shorts and promotions of local and national events. We approach all our film shows with flair and imagination. Our team of projectionists are highly experienced delivering first class film presentations every time.
